We started planning this trip about 8 months ago and was originally going to be a 3 vehicle convoy.
As of now we are down to a single vehicle with my Mrs, Lyn, Daughter Bronwyn and myself going.
We will be taking our twin locked MN Triton, It as modified as I can can make it and has proven to be ultra reliable to date. Going solo is a bit daunting but we are going regardless.
If I know one thing it is mark a date on the calendar and stick to it because you only live once.
The above maps are a rough plan of where we will be going.
We will drop into Fraser Island on the way home to Sydney for a few days to have a bit of a rest.
We will be leaving on 19/05/2023 and returning on 18/06/2023.
It’s a bit over 3 weeks before we leave so in the next few days we will start to focus on permits so as we can get around up there. More on that Latter.
It’s still pretty early in the season so we are expecting a fair bit of water. The western side of the Cape has received about 2000mm of rain since January. Parts of the Eastern side about 2500mm. The Northern section about 1600mm.
I’m only concerned about the depth of the water crossings in three places, Nolans Brook and the Pascoe and Wenlock Rivers. Depending on their depths and if there are other 4WD’s around at these three places I will give them a go but I won’t attempt Nolans by myself, nor the Pascoe. These two spots are notorious for sinking 4WD’s and I’m not planning on becoming one of their victims.
I really hope we can do the Creeb Track through the Daintree Rainforest, that will be completely dependant on local conditions. That track closes if there has been any rain around because of its steepness and clay base.
The old coach Road would be another track I’d love to do, pretty hard core 4WDriving this track, it’s only about 55K’s long but it’s reported to take 8-10 hours to complete, not too sure if we should do this alone but I will see how the car is going and how Lyn feels about it when the time comes. Another track that would be awesome is the Frenchmans Track but considering how much rain they have had up there it is highly unlikely I will even consider trying.
The Old Tele Track is of course a must and the 3 of us are hanging out to stand at the Northern most tip of the Continent.
